Hailing from a family dedicated to the film industry, Rani Mukherjee grew in an ambience of arc lights, cameras and movies. Her father Ram Mukherjee is an ex-film director.
She joined Maneckji Cooper High School in Juhu, and afterwards entered Mithibai College in Mumbai. At the age of 14, while she was still in school, Rani Mukherjee acted in a cameo role in the Bengali film Biyer Phool (1992), directed by her father.
After she came out from the school, immediately she started receiving the offers from the film producers. At this point of time she was just 17 years old. She started her career in the Bollywood with Raja Ki Ayegi Baarat and in the Bengali films with the home production Biyer Phool. Both the films were released in the year 1996.
Her first Hindi movie 'Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat' was a big flop. Everybody considered her as a goner with her first movie crash landed, but she wasn't ready to give it up and she was right, success wasn't too far away. Two years later in 1998 she signed an Aamir Khan movie called 'Ghulam' which was a big hit of that year and her role in the movie as Alisha received much praise. But Rani's career was about to take a hard twist, a huge international hit was waiting for her in the form of 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hain' in the same year.
With the huge success of the movie her star value skyrocketed and she was right there in the line of main stream actresses of bollywood. Once she got the start she never looked back, with her trademark husky voice, beautiful eyes and of course the talent she has become one of the most popular bollywood actresses of all time. Since her start in 1996, Rani has appeared in nearly 40 films.
She has played diverse characters in these films, many of which are superhits. With the film Mujhse Dosti Karoge! Rani Mukherjee made her first entry into India’s biggest production house: Yash Raj films. In the film Veer-Zaara she proved her immense talent as an actor and earned a lot of praise. But her best performance till date is undoubtedly in the movie Black, directed by Sanjay Leela Bansali. In this movie, she essays the role of the deaf and blind Michelle Mc Nelly with great perfection.
At the present time her work is appreciated and she is regarded as one of the top actresses of the Bollywood. Till now the hot and sexy Rani Mukherjee has received numerous awards for the recognition of her work. Few of her films are still in the making or the post production and when they are released it would take her career to a new height.
With the dedication towards the roles she is portraying, it is for certain that Rani would rule the world of the Bollywood for many years to come as a real Rani or the Queen of the hearts of the movie goers.
